Legislative Updates
Washington State
Election Day 2009 - Washington State
By Bill Stauffacher, Stauffacher Communications

The 2009 election results showed Washington State's royal blue political colors cutting against national GOP trends - especially visible in the outcome of two statewide ballot measures and local races in the Seattle area.

Buoyed by competitive local government races, the progressive left base in Seattle provided the votes needed to defeat a spending limits initiative and to pass by a narrow margin a ballot measure affirming the state's "everything but marriage" same-sex couples' law.  Not surprisingly, legislative Republicans won all three of the state House of Representatives special elections, including the last remaining Democratic seat in rural Eastern Washington.

Oregon State
Campaign to Repeal the Legislature's Tax Hikes
As the Oregon business community's campaign intensifies to repeal the Legislature's job-killing tax increases, AOI is asking businesses across the state to please sign the endorsement form in support of the campaign to repeal the Legislature's tax hikes.

Oregonians need to understand that the Legislature's tax increases will kill jobs, stall our state's economy, and damage small businesses. Having you join a broad coalition of Oregon businesses in support of the campaign will make this point unmistakably clear.

Please download the endorsement form and take a few minutes today to return it and show that you or your company supports the broad-based campaign to repeal the Legislature's job killing taxes. Click here to download>

Additional information on the campaign is available at: www.stopjobkillingtaxes.com
